Caernarfon Town matched their biggest away victory with a ruthless 5-0 win at Ammanford in the Cymru Premier. The result, secured with ten men for the final half-hour, lifts the Cofis to 18 points and third place in the table.
Sion Bradley and Phillip Mooney were the chief architects of the rout, each scoring a pair of goals. The opening strike arrived in the 22nd minute when Chris Marriott's corner was met by Mooney's powerful header. Bradley doubled the lead 15 minutes later, finishing off a flowing team move.
Red card fails to derail Cofis
The game's complexion shifted just after the hour mark when debutant defender Lucas Davies, signed from Haverfordwest County, was sent off for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. The foul also conceded a penalty, which Bradley calmly converted for his second of the afternoon. Playing with a numerical disadvantage did little to slow Caernarfon's momentum.
Phillip Mooney grabbed his second goal late on, before the afternoon was capped by a memorable moment for 17-year-old Harri Wyn. The teenager, on the pitch for just six minutes, scored his first senior goal for the club in stoppage time to complete the scoring. Matty Jones, who entered the fray with 20 minutes left, provided an assist in the closing stages.
Ammanford's struggles continue
The comprehensive defeat extends a difficult start to the season for the hosts. Ammanford have now failed to win in eight matches and sit second from bottom, having conceded 21 goals. Only Holywell Town have a worse defensive record. Their goalkeeper, Oliver Williams, was the man who handled the ball for Bradley's penalty.
For Caernarfon, the performance continues an impressive run of form. They have won four of their last five league matches, scoring 23 goals in eight games overall. That attacking output is second only to Barry Town in the division. The win keeps them within four points of leaders The New Saints as they target a return to the European Playoff places.
Both teams face a quick turnaround, with another match in four days. Ammanford host a Barry Town side that has lost just once this term. Caernarfon Town, meanwhile, welcome an unbeaten-at-home Llandudno to the Go Goodwins Stadium.
The victory at Ammanford follows recent successes against Flint Town United and Colwyn Bay, part of a sequence that has solidified their top-three status. Their next league assignment is an away trip to face ninth-placed Airbus UK on October 30.
