Porthmadog beat Den Bigh Town 3‑2 in a North Wales Premier League clash at Central Park on Saturday. The visitors’ win came after a tense first half, a penalty, a late equaliser from Den Bigh and a last‑minute winner from Osian Ellis.
A defensive start
Robbie Williams saved a Luke Johnston strike in the opening minutes, keeping Den Bigh’s early threat at bay. The hosts pressed hard, with Ben Lockley threatening from midfield, but the Port keeper produced a superb save at 18 minutes when Dylan Summers‑Jones’ through ball was cleared.
A fine volley from Gruff Ellis missed the target in the 28th minute, and a penalty awarded to Summers‑Jones at 34 minutes gave Porthmadog a 1‑0 lead after the 39‑year‑old struck low, sending the keeper the wrong way.
A tense second half
Williams made several stops in the second half, including a key save early on, but Den Bigh continued to press. Alfie Vaughan levelled at 55 minutes with a clever poke‑in, and Darren Thomas reclaimed the lead on 66 minutes with a slick low ball from Cofi Osian Ellis.
Den Bigh equalised on 72 minutes through Harry Martin’s individual goal, leaving Port supporters in disbelief.
The decisive moment
Late in the game, substitute Sam Reynolds fed Summers‑Jones down the right, whose cross found the centre. The first shot was saved, but Osian Ellis capitalised on the rebound to seal the win for Porthmadog.
A hard‑fought victory
Robbie Williams’ performance was praised for his command of the box and his ability to deal with high crosses. The match was described as a “memorable victory” against a “very good side”.
The hosts will face Caersws at Y Traeth next Friday at 7:45pm.
