Noah Daley’s early goal condemned Caernarfon Town to a 1-0 home defeat, but the match drew the biggest crowd of the weekend across the entire Cymru Leagues. A total of 852 supporters watched the Cymru Premier clash at The Oval on Saturday, a figure that topped the attendance charts for the second-tier Cymru North and third-tier Cymru South as well.
The 10th-minute winner from Barry’s Daley proved decisive in a tight contest, leaving Caernarfon fifth in the table with 23 points from 12 games. The result halted a positive recent run, with the Canaries having taken eight points from their previous five matches.
Attendance leads the way
While the result was disappointing, the turnout provided a significant positive. The 852-strong crowd was the highest recorded across all 23 matches in the Cymru pyramid where figures were available last weekend. It was also the first time this season Caernarfon failed to break the 1,000 mark at home, coming in 158 supporters lower than their previous home outing.
The wider picture showed a sharp week-on-week decline in attendances across the league. The average for the eight Cymru Premier matches was just under 420, a 48.3% drop from the previous weekend's figure above 800.
Barry manager Ian Johnson acknowledged the significance of the win in a challenging environment. "Barry returned from the North Wales Coast with three points, after Noah Daley’s 10th minute winner against Caernarfon Town," he said.
Context and next steps
The defeat leaves Caernarfon 11 points behind leaders The New Saints but firmly in the upper half of the standings. Their goal difference of +21, built on 35 goals scored this season, remains one of the strongest in the division.
Attention now turns to a trip to face Airbus UK on October 30th. The Wingmakers currently sit eighth, setting up another important fixture in the league calendar.
